Echo Device Setup

  1. Download the Alexa App
  2. Follow the instructions until you are prompted to connect to a network.
  3. Take the Mac address written on that page and follow the instructions found in this KB article (https://answers.uillinois.edu/illinois/page.php?id=54957) to add the device to your account. If you have trouble with this step contact the Tech Services Help Desk at consult@illinois.edu or at (http://techservices.illinois.edu/get-help).
  4. Finish following the instructions in the Alexa app.

 

Adding Illinois Skills

You will receive email invites to join the Beta tests for each of our skills. Follow the instructions in the invites to add each skill.

 

Skill Instructions

Illinois Menu Checker

Use:

  • To start using the skill say “Alexa start menu checker”
  • Ask the skill “What’s for dinner in P.A.R. today”
  • Ask the skill to set a specific food filter such as gluten free.
  • Say stop to exit the skill

Common Issues:

  • Make sure to specify the meal, dining hall and day(today or tomorrow) that you want to know about. If you leave out any of those options the skill will not work.

 

Illinois Lab Checker

Use:

  • To start using the skill say “Alexa start lab checker”
  • Give the building you would like EWS/ICS lab information for.
    • If there are multiple labs in a building the skill should list all the labs
  • Say stop to exit the skill

Common Issues:

 

Illinois Library Checker

Use:

  • To start using the skill say “Alexa start library checker”
  • Say the name of the library you want information for to get location, contact information and hours for that library.
  • Say stop to exit the skill

Common Issues:

 

Illinois Laundry Checker

Use:

  • To start using the skill say “Alexa start laundry checker”
  • Say the name of any of the residence halls with laundry rooms to get information about the available washers and dryers in those buildings.
  • Say stop to exit the skill
